Nimitz ordered the creation of a Flight Demonstration Squadron to protect the interests of the people in naval aviation and to boost naval morale. The team was formed on April 24, 1946, and conducted its first flight demonstration on June 15, 1946, at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville, Florida, flying the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat.
